Effects of molecular crowding on cellular reactions

The interior of cells is a highly crowded place with up to
400mg/ml dissolved macromolecules. Transport and reaction
kinetics are therefore strongly altered. Using advanced
light microscopy techniques (e.g. Fluorescence Correlation
Spectroscopy), the project aims at quantifying crowding-induced
changes in prototypical cellular reactions. Accompanying simulations
will complement the experimental approach to obatin a comprehensive
Systems Biology perspective of crowding effects in vivo.
