Nestlé Research Center (NRC) located near Lausanne, Switzerland is one of the leading research laboratories in food and nutritional sciences. With 700 members of staff from 50 nations, NRC has a strong position in the international scientific community supported further by more than 200 external scientific partnerships and University collaborations and 270 scientific publications each year (learn more about the NRC at www.research.nestle.com).
NRC has an excellent reputation in food and nutrition research that has benefited consumers for over a century. By bringing together its knowledge in Nutrition and Health, Food Science, Food/Consumer Interaction, Food Quality and Safety, Nestlé opens the way to develop Good Food and Good Life: to offer tasty foods that procure health as well as pleasure for our consumers.
In this global and multicultural environment, Nestlé, a food, nutrition, health and wellness company aims to work with the best scientists in the world.
To support its research strategy, the BioAnalytical Science Department at the NRC is seeking a:
Mass Spectrometry Scientist
who will work within the Metabolomics & Biomarkers group.
Main responsibilities: – Development and application of analytical methods in MS-based metabolomics: analysis of biological matrices (biofluids, tissue, cell cultures) with LC-MS(/MS) and GC-MS. – Combination of untargeted profiling (Q-TOF, Orbitrap) with targeted quantitative approaches (Q-trap, triple quadrupole). – Maintain the analytical throughput in support of the group project portfolio using targeted and untargeted approaches to support scientific substantiation of the metabolic fate of food ingredients and their biological effects on metabolism. – Interact with the NMR team for structural elucidation of new metabolites. – Steer MS-based metabolomics strengthening MS data processing and modelling for metabolic pathway visualization and interpretation. – Develop new application of MS-based Metabolomics in Nutrition Research.
Required profile: – PhD in Analytical Chemistry / Biochemistry / Biology or associated field with demonstrated skills in mass spectrometry applied to biological systems. – Strong expertise primarily in LC-MS for the analysis of small molecules with focus in metabolomics and/or structure elucidation. – Experience in the processing of MS data including statistical analysis. – Experience in data modelling for biochemical interpretation (metabolic pathway analysis) would be an advantage. – Able to interact with a multidisciplinary team of statisticians, bioinformaticians, biochemists and nutritionists. – Good communication skills in English.
Personal requirements: – Project management skills with a vision for innovation. – Open-minded team player. – Hard-worker.
